Worksheet
STEM Internship Comparison Worksheet
Compare up to three internship or research placement offers side by side on the work, pay, support, costs and fit.
Last updated
Who it helps
Students weighing two or three internship offers, or choosing between an internship and a research placement, who want to compare them on the same points instead of on first impressions.
How to use it
- Name each option in the column headings, for example the organization’s name.
- Fill in what you know from each offer letter or posting. Leave a cell blank if you don’t know yet; every blank is a question to ask before you decide.
- Add up the real costs. A higher wage in an expensive city can leave you with less than a lower wage with housing provided.
- Check eligibility and work authorization for each option, especially for federal roles or if you’re an international student.
- Write your decision notes, then download or print the comparison if you want to talk it through with someone.
It works for summer research placements too. For context, see our guide to STEM internships, STEM internships with no experience and summer research programs.

Limitations
- The worksheet organizes information; it doesn't judge offers. Pay, costs and fit depend on your own circumstances.
- Use the terms in your written offer. If something was only said verbally, ask for it in writing.
