Checklist
Field Research Preparation Checklist
Questions to ask a field host and preparation steps to track, to use alongside the host's own safety procedures.
Last updated
Who it helps
Students preparing for fieldwork at a field station, field school, dig site, research vessel or community setting, in the US or abroad, who want to ask the host the right questions and track their preparation.
How to use it
- Use “Before you commit” while you’re still deciding. Each item is a question to ask the host. Record the answer in the note field.
- Work through training, documents and health once you’ve accepted, following the host’s own instructions.
- Use the host’s packing list, not a generic one. The checklist only reminds you to get it.
- Print the completed checklist to take with you, or download a copy to share with someone at home.
