NSF requests date of birth for identification and to facilitate tracking of educational and employment outcomes in the future to support program evaluations and research studies.

Password length must be between 8 and 20 characters. The password must meet the following requirements:

  1. At least one lowercase letter
  2. At least one capital letter
  3. At least one number
  4. At least one of the following special characters: #, &, %, !, @, (, )

Eligibility Requirements

REU participants must be:

  • Citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States, AND
  • Undergraduate students or high school graduates who have been accepted at an undergraduate institution but who have not yet started their undergraduate study, OR
  • K–12 teachers of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

IRES participants must be:

  • Citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States, AND
  • Undergraduate or graduate students, OR
  • K–12 teachers of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Rules of Behavior

This computer system is the property of the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the Federal Government. Public reporting burden for this collection of information is estimated to average 0.5 hours for applicants to register and 12 hours to submit an application, including the time for reviewing instructions. Burden estimates for principal investigators is 0.5 hours to register and 8.9 hours to record admissions decisions and program attendance.
