REU participants must be:

  • Citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States, AND
  • Undergraduate students or high school graduates who have been accepted at an undergraduate institution but who have not yet started their undergraduate study, OR
  • K–12 teachers of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

IRES participants must be:

  • Citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States, AND
  • Undergraduate or graduate students, OR
  • K–12 teachers of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
